Barbie and her "normal" twin

-----I do not mean to offend anyone.

Scrolling down Facebook, I came across this link with these two pictures of Barbie and her normal sized self.

The images came off as striking to me because of the obvious difference between the two Barbie bodies. I’ve played with Barbie for a solid chunk of my childhood and always perceived her to be normal looking. Growing up in a society that stresses body images however, I do see the major differences now.

Right away—we notice the neck of Barbie is 2 cm longer than it should be, her height difference in real life probably translates to 4 inches and her limbs resemble toothpicks.

Barbie resembles what I would think of Victoria Secret models. She can be an underwear model for plastic people.

Personally, I think the normal sized Barbie looks way better (and realistic) than underwear model Barbie. She has some meat on her body and her legs and butt look great. They’re muscular and in my opinion would promote better health related issues. She can be a workout queen of the plastic world or something. A trainer.

This Barbie body is a better representation of a “normal-sized” body because it gives little girls a better depiction of what adults may look like. I say better because it’s more realistic—it’s not ideal. Any body is ideal, as long as you’re comfortable in your own skin.

Although I was not/am not affected by her body image in any way (not that I can remember/think of) I still firmly believe that Mattel should change her body image because unfortunately, many children are.
