Finding Our Greatness

Celebrating Greatness With Athletes and People around the World

Nike released a campaign of advertisements for the Summer Olympics in London of 2012. The compilation video showed clips of people achieving incredible feats of human strength  and courage. Each person had their own story of what they did and what made them great. Whether it was a marathon runner, little league player, Paralympic cyclist, or a little boy contemplating his first jump from the high-dive board, Nike urged that "Greatness is not for the chosen few".

Nike's advertisements are known for being inspirational. They reached a new level of inspiration in 2012 with people from around the world as Nike persuaded the viewer that everyone could be more than the average Joe. Heck, you could be GREAT. That is, if you buy and support Nike right?

Apart from the marketing ploys and debates on how Nike used this ad to sell its product, I think it is important that we appreciate their intentions. In the summer of 2012, Nike created an advertisement that hit home for many people. Nike reached out to congratulate the devoted athletes and the misunderstood or unsupported heroes of popular and unknown sports around the globe. They brought light to the millions of people who may not be famous for their talents but are still great for what they do.

We are all great for what we do. No matter how popular the hobby is that we have, we are all great for taking the initiative to do something about improving ourselves. I commend Nike for the campaign they took on because no matter what brand clothes we wear, Nike still proves that it is not about being a rich and famous athlete, it is pushing yourself to be better and working to find your own greatness no matter where it is we find it.

"Greatness is wherever someone is trying to find it"
