New on the
Internet is this Anti-Rape underwear idea developed by AR Wear. The intention
of this new undergarment is to prevent women from being raped. AR Wear
carefully designed this line so that rapists cannot forcefully pull down a woman’s
underwear.
Personally,
I feel that it’s a great thing to be able to have. I love feeling safe and
secure, especially when deciding to go out to sketchy clubs or a late night jog.
It would prevent me from having to experience rape and its consequences.
So
why does the media portray this underwear to be such a bad thing?
According
to the Huffington Post, the anti rape underwear wouldn’t prevent rapists from
coming. This is true. They also
argue, “Every time we tell women
that they should take another precaution to keep themselves safe -- we’re
furthering the fundamental premise upon which rape culture rests”. I wouldn’t
say that I would completely agree. Yes, it sucks to be a woman that gets
targeted for rape but to me, wearing the underwear would prevent me from experiencing
the doing and any psychological trouble that comes from it. What I’m getting at
is that I would rather buy the extra undergarment to protect my genitals than
to have it be abused by no-good humans.
Although rapists will
always exist and it’s sad that women have to take precautions in order to not
be victims of this assault, we have to take a stand on the issue. I feel that
AR took a stand on the issue by creating this line and it deserves less
criticism.
What do you
think? How do you feel about anti-rape underwear?
