She has beautiful scars!

 (linked images may be triggering)

Things that hurt hurt. That’s what they do, but on many social media sites we have started seeing the romanticizing of self-harm and many mental illnesses. We also see people describing depression as a 'glorious numbness' on social networks and  and having love and pain as inseparable duo. Some would say having an honorable death I one where you decide for yourself when, where and how. Personally, I believe life is precious and should be conserved for the sake of all those connected to it. But there is the right to free will and having everyone do as then please with their lives. There are some efforts being made on tumblr to stop romanticizing mental disorders.

Many people who say things like this often say if you do not want to see such things then you should block those tags. Mental illness is still stigmatized in many societies and many people who romanticize it say it is a way of having it talked about it and openly discussed.  Currently there are an estimated 58 million people in the US suffering from one or more mental illnesses, and if no one does anything to alleviate this suffering, and if we continue to have people ‘adore its beauty’ we are leaving people to suffer.
