Normally, I try to avoid ads on youtube, but I clicked on this video when I saw it in the "related videos" bar because I can't resist kittens. I think that this ad is very effective, because it gives a demonstration of how well the camera works while also telling a story that sticks in the viewer's mind. I was surprised and overjoyed that the fireman saved the kitten, since I thought a non-human animal would be deemed a waste of time and money to save. The GoPro camera slogan is "be a hero," and this fireman was a hero when he revived the kitten. I have thought about this kitten many times over the past few days, and I've shown the video to my roommates and friends. Because of the positive associations (Heroic fireman! Adorable kittens!) I have with this camera, I actually researched it online and looked up reviews. I hardly ever look up the products in ads, because I don't remember them long enough to google them when I get the chance.
Another reason this ad works is that it contained real footage from the fireman's camera instead of professionally taken and edited footage. This makes me trust the product and company more, since I know the footage wasn't taken for the purpose of advertising the product and is therefore a true demonstration of how the camera works. Even in a dark house presumably full of smoke, I could see details of the house, and once the fireman got outside the video quality was very nice (the highest it would go on youtube was 1080p, but I looked up the camera's capabilities on the product website and it can shoot 4K video. That's really high resolution!)
This ad appeals to my desire to nurture small, helpless, injured kittens, and did a very good job marketing the camera to me.
Thanks. Now I'm weeping in my kitchen.
