What You Love
These days when I'm watching TV I find myself being able to appreciate when I see a "good commercial." The most common of those ads are probably car ads. One of which is the ad for the 2013 Mercedes CLA.
In this commercial, the focus is hardly on the car itself, but on the driver. As the story progresses, the driver is exposed to the glitz and glamour that would inevitably come with the car and as the story goes on, you can see him liking it more and more. The fast pace of the commercial combined with the car and "everything that goes along with it" is what will make it so appealing to the audience, and of course Usher's brief appearance couldn't do any harm. However, what is most grabbing is the last few spoken lines in the commercial, "This September, set your soul free. The seductive CLA." Then, the last written statement to follow at the end of the commercial, "Mercedes Benz. The best or nothing." This is essentially saying if you don't own a Mercedes, you are nothing. This commercial was definitely well done, but there is another I find maybe more effective.
In this commercial, the focus is definitely more on the car as the "ultimate driving machine" rather than who's driving it. The narrator points out new, key features and the video itself shows beautiful interior and exterior views of the luxurious latest 5 Series model. What's most captivating and most effective was one of the last lines the narrator spoke, "It's a lot to like, but the spacious interior cabin, that's for what you love" and the scene changes from the car to the cute little boy sitting in the back seat. This is probably a more effective commercial because cars such as Mercedes and BMWs are definitely more affordable for an older population rather than young, such as a population that is old enough to have children. Also, a lot of times when adults are looking at new cars, they want to buy one that is safe, especially if they have "precious cargo" like children or grandchildren they'll be driving around, which BMW is showing them they can offer.
